The Birth chart as Labyrinth of the Soul

Each birth chart carries its own landscape of accomplishment and initiation, of deep encounters, and soul trials. There are long stretches of ease and moments when we seem to be turned away from what we desire. Planetary aspects and placements describe the kind of experiences, inner and outer, that are a required part of our journey. What is it we are asked to do,, and how do progressions and transits trigger different phases of soul work? How can we make sense of events that seem to wrest us away from the centre? We will follow the narrative of the birth chart- pick up its thread to guide us into the heart of our own life experience.

Lynn Bell, a Paris based Astrologer needs little introduction to the Aussie circuit, as she has become a popular presenter at Australian Conferences over the years. Lynn is one of the principal tutors at The Centre for Psychological Astrology in London teaching there since 1995 whilst also managing a busy consulting practice in Paris for the last 25 years.  Her work spans multiple cultures as a speaker, teacher, author and astrology consultant. Lynn has spoken at most of the major conferences around the world and teaches seminars internationally, leading the first “Astrology in Bali” workshop with Steven Forrest.

She also teaches for the New Chartres School, sponsored by Wisdom University and for Caroline Myss at her CMED Institute.  Lynn is the author of “Planetary Threads: Patterns of Relating Among Family and Friends” and co-authored “The Mars Quartet” for CPA Press with Darby Costello, Liz Greene and Melanie Reinhart).  Her most recent book is “Cycles of Light: Exploring the Mysteries of Solar Returns”. Lynn’s articles have appeared in the Mountain Astrologer, the AA Journal, Meridian and many other publications.

Retrograde Planets  -  Annual Cycles as Conscious Tools

This workshop will focus on a specific use of the superior planets and their cycles.  Embedded in the elegance of the solar system is the perfect, natural rhythm for inner development of self and motivation, all the while remaining focused on outer goals and aspirations.  What people want most from their astrologer is timing.  How and when, in what way, and the best method to go about making immediate decisions but with the big picture in mind is the gift that astrology has for us.  People who come to astrologers are usually quite sensible people and have made the choice for important reasons, not for entertainment or even reassurance of ‘who they are’, though that is important in consultation, those reasons being how best to use their self, their skills, their creative options and what their timing is.  The sun, the solar power, core fuel and personal ‘light’ is the key, the trigger to retrogression, and the retrograde cycles are bound to the sun’s transit.   Thus, the retrograde cycle is not an event, it is a process which proceeds forward in increments as years pass.  For instance, Uranus could be in a house for seven years.  What does this mean???  This is what we will make very clear in this workshop, what “it” means and how to get the most from the transit.

Individuation is a work in progress, and the annual cycles of each superior planet in relation to the transiting sun, demarcate exactly what phase we are in respective to the planet in question. Each planet from Mars to Pluto (the inner planets won’t really be explored, mentioned in any context, of course, but not in depth) has a brilliant set of timing geared only to you through your own horoscope.  Please bring your charts on acetate (as ‘clean’ as possible, only planets and Chiron on the chart for simplicity sake) for a few examples to be used.

Erin Sullivan is a consultant astrologer, author and teacher.  She lectures worldwide on many aspects of human development using mythology, psychology and the rich language of astrology. Erin’s Classical Studies background in archetypal analytic psychology, add a unique depth and breadth to her work. Her approach brings the profession of psychological and practical astrology into contemporary times.  She has been called ‘the astrologer’s astrologer’.  Erin is the author of six major astrology books, Saturn in Transit, Retrograde Planets,

The Astrology of Family Dynamics (Weiser) as well as Astro*Carto*Graphy and Relocation (CPA Books), Jupiter and Venus (CPA Books) and her latest best selling ‘The Astrology of Midlife and Aging (2005 with Tarcher/Penguin). Her company, Southwest Contemporary Astrology publishes unique personal reports, available online at her website www.erinsullivan.com

Harmonies of the Spheres: Understanding the Planetary Archetypes through the Arts

Astrology provides profound insight into the deep patterns of human experience and of our cultural history, but such insight depends on a capacity for rich archetypal perception, something that involves not only thinking but the emotions, the imagination, the aesthetic intuition, the body, the whole being.  Because music and the arts engage all these dimensions, this workshop will use representative works of music as windows into the archetypal character of different eras and individuals, and into the planetary alignments they eloquently express.

Richard Tarnas is a professor of philosophy and psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, where he founded the graduate program in Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness.  He also serves on the faculty of the Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara.  Formerly director of programs and education at Esalen Institute, he is the author of The Passion of the Western Mind, a history of the Western world view from the ancient Greek to the postmodern that became both a best seller and a required text in many universities.  His most recent book, Cosmos and Psyche: Intimations of a New World View, was published by Viking Press in 2006.  He has taught graduate courses and seminars in archetypal astrology to hundreds of students at accredited graduate schools in the United States.for the past twelve years.
