Lecture: Astrology and the Soul
Contrary to popular belief, Medieval Astrology did have a set of methods for psychological analysis, and they were very different from contemporary ones, yet based on a very sophisticated model of the soul. Instead of classifying psychological types according to the signs, it was done according to the planets using a very definite set of rules. Although these methods have not survived in modern use they are well documented in the older astrological literature. Preliminary results using these methods are showing great promise.

Lecture: The Medieval Method of Aspects
Aspects were handled very differently by Medieval Astrologers. For one thing they did not use the modern minor aspects. But they did use some aspects that we do not, such as antiscia, contra-antiscia and aspects by like rulerships. Also they did not think of aspects as static angles but as a series of events that occurred among the planets. And the order and sequencing of these events and their relationships to each other were of the highest importance. The modern usage of the Void of Course Moon is just one survival of these methods.

Extended Lecture: Planetary Periods in Western Astrology
Hindu astrology bases its predictions on periods of time ruled by a succession of planets. This gives a kind of overview for large periods of time that is not possible in conventional Western astrology. But there are Western techniques that do much the same thing. These are the Firdar or Alfridaries, Profections, Zodiacal Releasings from the Lots, Primary Directions and other techniques. Firdar come to us from the ancient Greeks via Persian and Arabic astrology. They are a very simple technique that can be mastered by relative beginners. Profections are another very simple technique that actually formed the backbone of astrological forecasting right up until early modern astrology. The Zodiacal Releasings from the Lots are newly discovered system from the Greeks that show great promise. Primary Directions are much more complex and can be covered only briefly in this workshop. Except for Primary Directions the basic techniques will be taught (very little calculation required) and applied to the charts of those who attend.

Lecture: The Timeless Journey of Soul
Lunar memory contains moods and attitudes formed throughout a lifetime of experiences on planet earth. Whilst we tend to lose all the factual information about our time here on earth, emotional memory is something that survives the trauma of death and rebirth. All planets have nodes and the south node is the one usually referred to as “of the past” – the lunar south node then has the distinction of holding our emotional memories.

Using techniques learnt through Steven Forrest and Jeff Wolf Green’s Evolutionary Astrology Schools this lecture will focus on the role of Pluto and the Lunar Nodes as the first indicators of an individual’s soul journey. It will go on to suggest possible past life scenarios that are still being played out by an individual in the present lifetime.

Lecture: Female Time: Ancient and Modern Images and Archetypes for Women
In the new millennium new roles, images and experiences await women. By clothing feminine archetypes in contemporary costumes we help to understand how these emerging new womanly forms will be experienced by both females and males. In this lecture we will explore the powerful presence of feminine archetypes through new lenses.

Lecture: Astrology in Times of Change
Our craft of astrology is undergoing enormous changes. In this lecture we will look at how astrology is changing, how it needs to change, as well as how it can reflect and support changes in the collective.

Lecture: Soul Time: Understanding the Role of Consciousness in Working with Horoscopes
In this lecture we will explore the impact of consciousness upon astrological archetypes and signatures. Even though two people may share similar astrological patterns, the outcome can vary significantly depending on the level of consciousness brought to bear on understanding the deeper meaning and energy of the archetypal constellation. When we embrace its soulful meaning we are more able to co-create and participate with our authentic path in life.

Lecture: Planetary Hours: their use in traditional astrology & importance for the understanding of time
Planetary hours go to the heart of astrology in our understanding of the unique quality of time. The most fundamental assumption of astrology, so rarely stated, is that the quality of time varies from moment to moment. While the use of clocks in modern society might lead us to assume that time is a stream of uniform moments of equal quality, ancient astrology points to a different conclusion. In this lecture Peter Burns will explain the meaning of planetary hours, how they are used and how to calculate them quickly without a computer. Peter will also explain some applications of the planetary hours in horary and natal astrology.

Lecture: Getting to the Heart of Your Chart: Clear Horoscope Delineation
When reading a chart, where do we start? How do we notice key themes running through the horoscope? And how do we determine what’s most important and avoid getting lost in too much detail? No chart is difficult to interpret if we develop a method of breaking it down into manageable pieces – and then work to synthesize these key factors. This talk will help students of all levels learn to zoom into a chart, make lightning-fast connections and identify its major scripts and dynamics.

Lecture: Solar Arc Directions: Tracking Your Life Story
The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once
– Albert Einstein

Often at times of major life events and developments, our natal charts are more activated by Solar Arc Directions than by Transits or Progressions. Solar Arc is an invaluable, easy-to-master forecasting (and rectification) tool that often amazes clients and students with its clarity and simplicity. If you can count, you can use Solar Arc! In this lecture, we shall learn how to get the most from Directions, and Frank will share some tips for identifying landmark periods in our life. He will also introduce his work on ‘Shadow Transits’, which gives astrologers a tool to link seemingly unrelated life events.

Lecture: Vocational Arousal:  Getting your clients going by making a vocational profile to fit with the times
How often do you hear from your clients: ‘Now there’s lots of uncertainty, I feel at a crossroads’; ‘What are my choices?’ or ‘I still doubt my ability. Should I change course?’ By using vocational profiling and key parts of the horoscope, Faye will show how to help clients discover the types of work that suit them. You may also pinpoint your own work style, strengths and talents. Making use of a career counselling framework and case studies, we will focus on spotting profession, identifying talents and discuss the idea of creating a lasting career profile using the chart.

Lecture: What time is it? The magic of the 72 year cycle: how to tell the time in your life, your company and your country
The horoscope can be seen as a clock. This idea was developed further in the 60’s by Bruno Huber, a Swiss astrologer who developed the technique of Age Progression and the Age Point which in his view highlights psychological development. Faye will briefly explain the 72-year Huber cycle and provide case studies showing that it has relevance for companies and countries as well as individuals. She has used this technique for over 20 years and has found it one of the most useful tools in the Astro toolkit. Her dissertation for her MA in Cultural Astronomy and Astrology offered a model for organisational development based on this idea. One of her papers also researched experiences of clients at age 45, a particularly interesting time, using this system.

Lecture: Models of Freedom and Determinism in Traditional Astrology
We will venture beyond the general “freedom, fate, or both?” discussions of determinism in astrology, first reviewing some traditional discussions by philosophers and theologians who developed the theories of determinism and free will. Attendees will learn to discuss the interplay between ethics, determinism, freedom, and astrology in a more sophisticated way. Is the notion of free will morally problematic? Could the chart be open-ended but the world deterministic? Learn some specific models for how astrology and the world may work.

Lecture: Family and Friends in Traditional Astrology
Traditional astrologers used a variety of planets and Lots to evaluate the family and friends of natives, their status and compatibility. In this lecture we will use several Lots, house delineations, and synastry methods from medieval texts in order to study these primary relationships in the natal chart.

Extended Lecture: Eminence and status in Traditional Astrology
Traditional astrologers looked at several dimensions to eminence, status, and conventional success and happiness. In this lecture we will look at a number of nativities for evidence of eminence and success from a traditional perspective, and try to understand the differences between several indicators: triplicity Lords, Lots, fixed stars, the Lot of Fortune, “bodyguarding” or dusturiyyah, and the balance of benefics and malefics.

Lecture: Egyptian Decans: Star Gods of Time
The thirty-six astrological decans have their origin in ancient Egypt as star gods reckoning time during the soul’s journey through the underworld and later as overseers of illness and healing. This image-rich presentation will trace how these faces of the deities became incorporated into the earliest zodiacs and astrological manuals, associated with the hermetic doctrine of sympathies between stars, plants, stones, and human organs, and from there influenced the medieval and renaissance magical tradition of amulets and talismans.

Lecture: Hermes: Guardian of Thresholds
This in-depth exploration of Mercury is richly illustrated with images of the planet and the god. Explore his multifaceted archetypal nature as youth, messenger, trickster, thief, magician, sage, guide of souls, and guardian of life transitions. Discover how the phases of its synodic cycle relative to visibility, speed, direction, heliacal rise and set, and morning or evening appearances mirror the dual nature of Mercury’s mythic attributes and point the way to the corresponding nuances in natal interpretation of this enigmatic planet.

Extended Lecture: Turning the Wheel of Life
A deep and thorough discussion of the twelve houses as the archetypal template for all the topics of life experiences. We will compare the ancient and modern significations of the twelve houses and learn how certain topics are automatically connected for each of the rising sign types, as well as how the houses are classified as fortunate or difficult locations for conducting the business of life. We will also practice how to interpret planets both ruling and occupying a house, and demonstrate a simple but powerful ancient timing technique based upon the annual rotation of houses.

Lecture: The Year 2012: A Step Forward In Time
Many have seen 2012 as a catalytic year with lots of things predicted with some thinking it’s the EOTWASKI (the End of the World as We Know It) and some wondering if time is going to stand still. Of course, time will continue on as it always has, but what will be the nature of that time? With Lynda, you’ll be exploring the Sabian Symbols for the end of the Mayan calendar – let’s check out what it all means.

Lecture: The Sabian Symbols: A Lens of Perception
The Sabian Symbols provide a unique and amazing layer of insight into any chart. They describe, often with startling accuracy, the meaning of the time and show another dimension beyond the usual rules of interpretation. From years of research, Lynda has some very interesting observations of how the Symbols can be used to see the chart as a hologram. This lecture will show you how to see the zodiac in an entirely new way.

Lecture: The Chinese Astrological Cycles
Chinese astrology is based upon their system of five elements which form the foundations of Chinese Philosophy and Medicine. This lecture will introduce the Chinese Astrological cycles which are ascertained from the trigrams of the resource of Chinese philosophy called the ‘I Ching’. As part of these cycles we will examine 2012 – The Year of the Dragon – ushering in the ‘Fire’ element years reflecting on what we can expect collectively and personally. Correlations and relevance will be made with the current planetary cycles. The unique approach to chart analysis which uses not only the year of Birth, but the month, day and the hour in the construction of a birth chart will also be introduced

Lecture: Career Guidance with Horary
The prospects of career change are exciting, but they can provoke sleepless nights for those who fear stepping into the unknown, or who worry about damaging their livelihood. Reviewing the main considerations through modern case-studies, this presentation demonstrates how horary offers both an overview and a detailed analysis of the pertinent matters upon which decisions must be made.

Lecture: Time, the Combustion Cycle and the Symbolism of Celestial Phases
Astrology, whilst Earth-centred in perspective, has always been Sun-centred in its philosophy. Ancient astrologers regarded the Sun as the central conductor of creativity; the generator of ‘celestial light’, which was moulded by planetary interaction to become a physically and spiritually effective influence. This talk explores the profoundly meaningful ‘combustion cycle’, presenting essential astrological details from which we understand the meaning of lunar and planetary phases, and discover a deeper significance within humours and temperaments, and related concepts of ‘stellar phenomena’.

Extended Lecture: Adding Details from Dignities and Receptions
This presentation introduces (and clarifies) the traditional philosophy and practical use of dignities and debilities in chart-work. It then explains how, and in what circumstances, receptions become important. Starting from original principles, example charts are used to demonstrate how to judge the effect of aspects with this additional information taken into account. What is the difference between harmonious aspects involving debilitated planets, and difficult aspects involving dignified planets? This level of detail is useful in many situations, and allows the astrologer to judge whether a client should be advised to avoid an impending problem, or whether they should be encouraged to tackle it head-on, with the intention of surmounting it. Anyone who has ever struggled to understand why or how reception becomes important in aspectual contact, will find this presentation highly illuminating and refreshingly simple to understand. This will be especially suitable for beginners and intermediate levels of experience.

Lecture: Kepler and the Discovery of the Minor Aspects
The minor aspects (semi-sextile, quincunx, quintile…) are perhaps the only astrological doctrine whose origin and rationale are known to us with absolute precision and certainty. They were identified by Johannes Kepler in 1596 as the result of explorations of the relationships between geometry and music. This talk tells the story of the origin and early developments of the minor aspects and their significance in the history of astrology.

Lecture: The Great Conjunctions and the Writing of History
The conjunctions of Saturn and Jupiter take place every 20 years, with a shift of triplicity every 240 years and return to the initial position every 960 years. These ‘great conjunctions’ were used in the Middle Ages, both in the Islamic and Christian worlds, to (re)write and (re)interpret the history of the world from the Creation to the coming of Antichrist. In this talk we will explore the basic tenets of this theory and their applications.

Lecture: A time for seeding and growing in world affairs: Ceres, guiding spirit of democracy
Here we look at the seasons of Ceres, not in her role as mother of the corn, or as the mother who kisses us better when we hurt, but as the mother of democracy, the spirit who seeds and guides a free, equal, just and caring society. Without Ceres, we would still be stuck in ancient feudal systems, with scant regard for the welfare of ordinary people. All living beings are children of Ceres, not just the privileged, and she takes a loving interest in the well-being of everyone and everything. Today we explore the gently powerful, beneficent influence Ceres has had for hundreds of years, as we take in great asteroid cycles, great movements of civilization, great moments of change, and great lives, and see how truly great has been the influence of Ceres on seeding and growing all these shifts in consciousness and culture.

Lecture: A time for flowering and fruiting in our lives: Flora and Pomona, guiding spirits of grace and fulfilment
Today we meet two neglected archetypal symbols, Flora (goddess of spring and flowers) and Pomona (goddess of fruit trees), and see what gifts these goddesses offer via their asteroids. Flora bestows a blooming grace wherever she goes in the horoscope, allowing us, or our works, to come into full flower on whatever level is appropriate. Pomona takes this to the next level and brings everything to fruition, showing us what kind of fulfilment is possible or due for our talents and efforts. If we fail to cultivate our gardens and orchards, then our flowers and fruits may fall short of our hopes, but we can’t blame the goddesses – or their asteroids – for that. By understanding the influence of Flora and Pomona we may be able to see a little more clearly what our best gifts are, and what we can do to nurture them, and create sweet abundance in our lives.

Lecture: Are You Male or Female?
Don’t be so sure
Don’t kid yourself.
There’s a gender war going on and it hasn’t even begun. Currently we are dealing with the ever present issue of dominance and submission in every relationship. The trick is to be able to accept what turns you on and live with it.

Lecture: The Twelfth House
You can’t be afraid of it. You can’t dread it. It’s there waiting for all of us. The twelfth house is the point where you may make a total fool of yourself over and over, resolve never to be an idiot; yet you do it again. It’s the point of spiritual awakening and enlightenment and total freedom. How the hell can we reconcile those two issues?

Extended Lecture: Planetary Dispositors: The Karmic Directors of our Horoscopes and our Lives
Everybody has a bottom line; there are systems of cycles and planetary forces that tie you together, focus your energy and direct your life. Whether through a final dispositor or another complex celestial web, the planets that rule you are never static or stable: they shift and change in the progressed and transiting astrological wind, altering your course and your destiny.

Lecture: Dreamtime: An astrological exploration of the film ‘Avatar’
The growing awareness that our technological journey has not factored in our relationship with Mother Earth has left us standing on the brink of much needed transformational changes. The Cardinal T-square trumpeted the call of judgement day; but also inspired visions of a new Eden, if only we can change our ways.  Can we confront our wounds …heal our wounds …and dare to dream of a whole new future?  Avatar is a mythological ‘everyman’s ‘ morality tale. Visually sumptuous with the added glamour of 3-D, James Cameron’s film draws us deep into the world of the Na’vi whose umbilical cord to Mother Earth has not been broken.  How does Avatar reflect the issues of our time as shown by outer planets transits? Does it offer real solutions or is it all a Neptunian diversion? Does James Cameron’s new film, out in 2011, reflect the same issues? We will explore these questions and more.

Lecture: Chronus and his Fatal Number “7”

“The Lord hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years.”

“7” is the fatal number referred to many times in the Bible and it is ruled by the planet Saturn, which brings about contractions, depression and panics. Seven times 7 equals 49, which is shown as a fatal year, causing extreme fluctuations.”
W.D. Gann

In the above quote from his Commodity Course, Gann refers directly to a planet Saturn or Chronus known anciently as the God of Time. What I have found in my study of Gann throughout the past seven years is that he left behind so many clues to cycles in all his writings – you just have to take the time to dig them out. In this lecture you will learn about past cycles of growth, panics and decay in stocks and commodities and why the Jubilee cycle was celebrated at the 50th year.

Lecture: Primal Time: The Pre-Natal Origins of the Zodiac
This lecture draws on the work of Frances J. Mott to explore the symbolism of ‘biological time’ inherent in the zodiac, which can be seen as the ‘spiritual womb’ that contains and nurtures our soul’s development from conception onwards through birth and death. An understanding of pre-natal dynamics also sheds an intriguing new light on familiar mythic themes.

Lecture: Ancient Time: Orcus, Companion of Pluto
Imagery of oceans, floods and sea monsters features in the creation stories of the ‘time before time’ in many cultures, and it is perhaps no accident that Orcus comes to our attention now during these times of apocalyptic expectation. Orcus is a Trans-Neptunian object (TNO) discovered in 2004, whose orbital pathway mirrors that of Pluto in a spectacular way. This lecture focuses on the collective, archetypal and personal levels of its meaning and themes. Orcus is now in early Virgo, making a long succession of oppositions (16 in total) with Chiron and Neptune in Pisces.

Lecture: Ancestral Time: Pholus and Nessus
‘The Centaurs’ in astronomy are a sub-group of objects said to have originated in the Kuiper Belt which surrounds our Solar System. Together with Chiron, they signify aspects of the process of healing and transformation. We consider in detail the mythology and astrological meaning of Pholus and Nessus, the 2nd and 3rd Centaurs to be discovered, with particular reference to the ancestral themes which their transits often reveal.

Lecture: The Cardinal Cross
Each of the crosses is associated with characteristic psychological profiles and a spectrum of related symptoms. Using case studies, in this lecture we will examine the medical conditions most commonly found in the cardinal signs and investigate the likely effects and possible correctives during the time that three of the heavyweight planets move through the cardinal cross – Saturn through Libra, Uranus through Aries and Pluto through Capricorn.

Lecture: In Sickness and in Health: Saturn and Neptune
As astrological principles Saturn and Neptune are almost polar opposites. Each rules its own system of the body’s physiology and has its own physical and psychological pathology as well as healing potential. We will trace the life challenges, anatomical areas and physical problems linked with each of these planets through the signs and discover health-promoting activities for the prevention and healing of any such problems.

Exteneded Lecture: Signs of the Times: Cancer, Diabetes, Heart Disease and other Chronic Disorders
Why does this particular person have this particular ailment at this particular time? How can astrology help us pinpoint health vulnerabilities and stay well – or speed recovery if we do become ill? Using both traditional and modern techniques and the insights provided by case studies, we will explore these questions in depth with the focus on some of the most common chronic conditions in modern times.

Lecture: Understanding Neptunian Sensitivity
Neptune’s ingress into Pisces suggests we are being called on to find a way to embrace the Neptunian archetype, which can be both a blessing and a curse. Neptunian feeling can manifest as intuitive gifts, compassion and sensitivity to others’ needs, as well as anxiety, co-dependency, escapism and a multitude of stress related physical symptoms including fatigue, digestive problems, allergies and auto-immune disorders.

This lecture explores Neptunian sensitivity from an astrological perspective and looks at ways to honour and work constructively with this archetype for ourselves and our clients.

Lecture: Times to Come – Mundane Musings
The effectiveness of mundane astrology has been a fascination since the ancient Babylonian recurrence cycles and ingress methods. This lecture looks at both the modern and ancient diversity of techniques utilized in predicting future global indications. The purpose is to lay down an effective methodology of prioritising your information, in combining recurrence cycles with past events as well as deciding which national charts work, and why. The horoscope of Australia will also be examined in depth to give an overview of the next decade, along with other leading nations.

Lecture: Love is Never Blind – The People who Change You
One of the most oft asked questions to a professional astrologer is, ‘will I find true love and when?’ But love can also be a many-ended thing, with the nature of relationship encompassing more than the original question intended. Soul connection often comes when we least expect it. This presentation analyzes the astrological components of attraction and the inner dynamics of relationship within the individual horoscope. It explores how, when and why we end up in relationships, using charts of the famous such as John Lennon and Errol Flynn, with working horoscopes from compliant clients.
