2018 FAA CONFERENCE ACCOMODATION

About the Accommodation

Our conference venue is International House, located at 241 Royal Parade, Parkville, Melbourne.

Melbourne comes alive in the last half of January with the Australian Open and tennis fans pour in from around the world. So Melbourne is usually full and accommodation is scarce; therefore we are recommending early booking. There are many choices of accommodation available as follows:

  1. A single student room on campus
  2. Share an apartment on campus with friends
  3. Stay nearby

1. A single student room on campus

While the student rooms are student rooms, they are clean and often spacious, including:

  • One single bed
  • Desk, lamp and chair in each room
  • Communal bathroom, with shower and toilet
  • Communal tea and coffee making area outside room
  • Access to coin operated laundry facilities
  • Internet access
  • Breakfast is included
  • Electronic locks on doors

Most student rooms do not have lift access or air conditioning. However they are very reasonably priced and allow you to save for your purchases at the Zodiac Conference Bookshop.

Check out these rooms at: http://ihouse.unimelb.edu.au/external-bookings/short-term-accommodation

2. Share an apartment on campus with friends

We have managed to secure some apartments on campus during the conference; however these will go fast. We have some one, two, three and four-bedroom apartments available; however we anticipate that these will go quickly. Therefore if you have a group of friends who would like to share, or if you feel you might want your own space, this is a great option.

Some of the apartments are right in the centre of the campus, have air con, a lift and a big lounge for the late night debriefs that will take place. These are limited so will be assigned on a first come basis. Some of our self-contained and 3-bedroom apartments are behind the campus on the Avenue in an older style building that looks out onto parkland.

If you are interested in booking an apartment please get in touch with Brian Clark at astrosynthesis@bigpond.com for availability, prices and method of payment.

3. Stay nearby

Melburnians know why their city tops Vienna or Vancouver for the most liveable city – it is that cross-cultural ambience wherever you go and we are in the heart of it with Brunswick, Carlton and the city close by. So you might prefer to book your own accommodation as we are so close to the city. We’ve scouted a few places as follows:
