Lyndall McQuinn In Memoriam

I met my friend Lyndall 19 years ago when she was one of an inspiring group who worked out of a healing centre in Daylesford, Victoria. I ended up buying the healing centre, and Lyndall continued to work from there over the years. She dreamt of having her own space and, as was her way, she set the intention, announced what she wanted and so it was! She loved her gorgeous little room overlooking the garden, surrounded by the tools and accoutrements of her craft. It was a cosy, welcoming, sacred space reflecting her own welcoming, calm, hospitable energy.

Often using her beloved Motherpeace Tarot deck alongside an astrology chart, Lyndall’s approach was compassionate, insightful, wise, at times witty, always supportive, entertaining, enlightening and therapeutic. Our charts are very similar and maybe that added to the depth of connection that I felt, though I think that was her ability – to connect at a deeply unconscious level. She supported many, many grateful clients with her intuitive, grounded and insightful readings, knowing when to push, when to be flippant, when to challenge, when to allow.

Lyndall was one of my first astrology teachers, introducing me to the language, patterns and cycles of astrology and to the transformational power of working with the chart. The classes around her kitchen table were fun. As she shared her wisdom, knowledge and passion for astrology, we shared our life stories and learned from each other. Lyndall held the space, with great empathy and generosity of spirit for so many people from all walks of life to learn and grow. She passed on the wisdom of the ages as a true wise woman, as much by demonstration as instruction.

We were friends outside the business and the reading room, catching up over coffee or lunch, chatting about our families, clothes and shoes, or gossiping about our little town. I remember she so proudly shared her excitement about her new car. We talked about planned trips interstate and overseas, plans to develop her astrology workshops, feelings about the world, politics, politicians, the inequalities in life – often fuelled by her Aries fire as no doubt were her many ideas . She was her own person, determined, driven and had the courage of her convictions. Her enthusiasm about a wide range of topics was infectious.

And woe betide if she had a cause!!! Many years after we met, I sold the business. The new owners were not aware of the significance of the Goddess Quan Yin – Lyndall was incensed and with a flick of her amazing (magical raven) black hair, she insisted we ask everyone we could think of to buy all the Quan Yin statues and get them out of the place. She mounted quite a campaign! My Quan Yin statue will always remind me of what a magical goddess she was.

Since Lyndall’s family announced her untimely passing, there have been hundreds of posts and messages on her FB page, which bear witness to just how special and loved she was. She was authentic, real, genuine and has left behind a family and a community who will mourn her passing greatly. I will miss the much-valued connection we had over the last 19 years. I am proud to be part of the community who say ‘My Friend Lyndall’. We are bereft.

Vale Lyndall.
with loving memories of ‘My Friend Lyndall’, Bron Lamb
